Pamela’s lifelong interest in wildlife and background in fine arts coalesced in 2019 when she set up her first trail camera. A bobcat sauntered across her screen, changing the course of her life with it. Pamela uses trail cameras to document hundreds of hours of beavers living their lives under cover of darkness around the Deschutes River Basin as lead field tech of the Beaver Response Team. She believes in the power of an ‘unbiased eye’ as a citizen scientist who doesn’t have formal science education. The new frontier of wildlife study is expanding exponentially as people now have access to inexpensive trail cameras and sharing the findings with other interested parties. It’s her passion to encourage other citizen scientists to join in the wildlife monitoring adventure with her. Volunteer opportunities for 2021 are in the works.
